- Radioactive isotopes
A home drinking water filter system could remove most if not all traces of those toxins. Bottled beverage manufacturers can only reduce contaminants to a certain extent, due to the sheer amount of liquids that pass through their factories on a daily basis.
The brands tested by EWG included Giant’s Acadia and Wal-Mart’s Sam’s Choice. In cases where no contaminants were found, testing revealed the stuff in the bottle was no better than what came out of the local tap.
That’s understandable when you know that most companies use the local supply as their source. Initially, bottled water was only used in case of an emergency such as a flood, hurricane or other natural disaster. The FDA only requires that bottled be as good as tap, not better than.
